Day 3:
Today we had our very first blogging class in the residence. Our teacher Nada made us introduce ourselves and our favorite stories, it really inspired us to think about what makes a good story. She also introduced us to the history of different means of communication, such as cave paintings, sculptures, paper, printers, podcasting and so on.

She gave us great insight on what makes the best stories, which is empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand others’ pain. When you truly connect with the characters even at their darkest times, it makes the best stories. She also introduced to us several blogging websites, including Wordpress and Canva. Wordpress is a popular blogging platform used by millions of users worldwide. On the other hand, Canva is a handy little website on which we can edit photos. There are lots of wonderful templates and fonts that are easy to use. We had a lot of fun creating nice pictures! We designed the layouts of our blogs and summarized highlights of the previous days. We can’t wait to upload our next entry!

In the afternoon we hit the Cantor Art Museum set amid a lush green lawn. As we strode into the museum, we found ourselves surrounded by a wide array of delicately designed paintings and sculptures of various styles. The diversity and depth of art is greatly appreciated and we highly admire the university’s dedication and devotion towards the preservation and collection of art. We stared at them in awe and amazement.

Next we headed off to the Hoover Tower where we went to the deck of 78 meters above ground. We gazed at the panoramic view of Stanford and tried not to tremble. The view of the Stanford from above is absolutely stunning and breath-taking, highlighted by the warm Californian sun. The golden fields and majestic palm trees are definitely symbols of Stanford.

In the evening, our counselors brought henna for us to draw. We had a lot of fun choosing and drawing patterns on each others’ arms. We had an amazing day and we cannot wait for more adventures ahead!
