Group 5

Blog 1 (5-6/7/2016)
Hello! We are Group 5. Having been given an extraordinary opportunity to join the Stanford Tour, we had felt exhilarated since our gathering at the airport. After an exhausting, long (12-hour) flight, we were overjoyed to finally arrive in the beautiful San Francisco, which houses the magnificent, historical and grand Stanford University.  We had a lot of fun meeting the Director, and all the councilors, as well as admiring the campus.
After a good night’s sleep, we visited the dining hall, which had an unexpected buffet with extremely delicious food. We then had our first lesson of the tour—Anthropology. At first, we were very curious to find out what the field was about, as we never had the chance to explore it in Hong Kong. But after a discussion of controversial global issues such as the Brexit, we were enlightened by the fascinating subject, and were finally able to define “Anthropology”— to look at the familiar with a critical perspective.
The next lesson was a writing workshop. We loved the way our lecturer presented the topic of rhetoric. Through numerous fun activities and her humorous jokes, we learnt how to put in application the different ways of persuasion.
By the end of the day, we paid a visit to the Stanford Bookstore to shop for ourselves and our loved ones. The souvenirs which represent the Stanford pride were brilliant, and the collection of books was diverse.
Near the bookstore, there was a stunning fountain (as shown in the picture) radiating a spectrum of colours. When taking a short rest, we enjoyed the clear blue sky and took a few photos on the natural grassy field.
We look forward to a new day with smiles and happiness.
