Another day of an interesting
lesson – today, we had a session on Effective Non-verbal Communication. Our instructor,
Professor Jeff Cabili, taught us non-verbal communication skills such as
posture, tone, eye contact, etc. that would be particularly effective in
presentations. These useful tips will surely help us in applying them to communication
in our daily lives. The lesson was
engaging as we had the opportunity to use paralanguage in our speeches. Some of us even had the chance to deliver a
1-minute speech and we, the audience, were asked to provide feedback.
In the
afternoon, the dreaded moment arrived when we had to give our final
presentation. After much preparation, we
were finally ready to share with everyone what part of the summer program had
the most impact on us. Unable to forget the awesome Napier Bones exhibit at the
Computer History Museum, our group presented a replica of this exhibit, handcrafted
by us from empty pizza boxes. The
audience was quite impressed with our demonstration. We were certainly glad that we could apply
what we have learnt into our final presentation! Also, some of the skills learnt in our
Effective Non-Verbal Communication lesson this morning were applied too. We were glad that our final presentation went
smoothly and we were extremely grateful that we would be able to accomplish so
much and receive a certificate for our hard work during the past 2 weeks. This has certainly been an amazing experience
for us!
The
highlight of our day was post dinner, when we had the time of our lives playing
in the garden with water balloons. We splashed each other with water balloons and
we were completely soaked. We especially enjoyed drenching our chaperoning
teachers and it was amusing to see them run around in the garden! Then, we went
to ‘the Claw’ for fountain-hopping. This was even more exciting as we all got
totally soaked. We will treasure all these memories.
