Group 9 - Day 4 (8/7/2016)

Day 4:

We had a morning run today to get some fresh air. On the way, we saw a real-life squirrel which was climbing on the tree next to us. We were fascinated with seeing the cute squirrel and took some pictures. After that, we returned to the campus and prepared for class.

First, we had an amazing time with Chris in our decision making class. He invited a student out front and played a game about weighing decisions and money. We have learnt to construct a decision making chart and calculated the expected value of different possible outcomes. After that, we watched a video in how a few high school students make tough decisions on their trip to Himalayas. We discussed with our group mates and presented our ideas to the class, before revealing the students’ choice. At last, he taught us about the six important elements on making a decision, and shared with us the biggest decision he ever made in his life. Through this lesson, we have learnt how to make better decisions, and we find this lesson very useful.

After that, we had a lesson on writing. we first played bingo with using 20 different colours, such as caramel, beige, puce, etc. It was very fun, we hoped to play longer. Then, the teacher taught us about rhetoric, ethos, pathos and logos. We understood these terms by identifying ethos, pathos and logos of different advertisements. Then, we had an exercise on making advertisements including ethos, pathos and logos. Before ending the lesson, we looked over a piece of article and once again identify ethos, pathos and logos. Through this lesson, we learnt how to persuade others in writing and how to make a good advertisement.

Then, we played scavenger hunt. It was very fun. We cooperated as a team and tried to find the given requirements. Through this event, we became more familiar with the campus. Although we were not able to finish all the requirements and we did not arrive on time, we enjoyed it very much.

We are very excited about the field trip to San Francisco tomorrow and we cannot wait to be there!
