Today we had a visual design thinking class with Professor Bill Scott which was about having to design innovative ideas and drawing different basic shapes which actually had a lot of engineering and math in the secrets of drawing the perfect shape. Instead of taking art lessons on the perspectives, this lesson on design and art accompanied by elements of drawing have taught us all about the art of perspective and the usages of dark lines and shading in a simple picture. The four of us were also taught how to reframe our painting to highlight the important objects. One of the most rewarding activities was that we were given a penny and are asked for the different usage of a simple penny. Some suggested that a penny can used to be flipped which leads to gambling, while some other suggested that a penny can be used as armor and leads for protection. Through this activity, we learnt different approaches to one simple question and we understood that every kind of explorer needs a map, including those who explore; creativity and mind map are the keys to find the best ideas and improving our existing ideas.

The second activity in the lesson was to create a story by forming groups and each group member had to say a line to complete the story, this activity helped us to integrate ideas and improve the content of a boring story. This drawing lesson was a journey of self exploration that helped us understood the importance of an idea and the technique to think through a problem with alternative perspectives with the help of creativity.

Our second activity should probably be visiting the Hoover Tower and Cantor Museum Photo Tour. Unfortunately, the Cantor Museum Photo Tour is closed, we had to change the route and start going around the medical school. We went to the Lorry L Lokey stem cell research building, John and Regina Scully center for clinical sciences research and the Medical library. The design of the building was special that the John and Regina Scully Center for Clinical Sciences Research building was a set of two separate buildings with bamboo plant atrium in the middle and elevators in the center. This unusual and informal campus tour was fascinating that we enjoyed it a lot.

The last station for the visit was the Hoover Tower. The exhibit inside the Hoover Tower is dedicated to Herbert Hoover’s fifty years in international and national public service. It is designed to provide a better understanding of Herbert Hoover’s contributions to American life and world peace by highlighting the variety and scope of his activities and accomplishments. The view was fantastic, we enjoyed our time. We took a lot photo and recorded our beautiful memories. We saw the full view of Stanford on the 14/F, we got to know more about Stanford University and we are also being surprised by the humongous size of the campus.

In conclusion, today was a wonderful and fruitful day. We surely wish that we will have a chance to visit and experience the astonishing view in Stanford again.
