Group 6

5/7/2016

We arrived safely at Stanford University.  We visited the campus and it is amazing.  It is totally different from Hong Kong.  The air is fresh and our dorms are made of wood.  The weather is nice.  The Councilors are very helpful and cheerful.  We have a lot of fun together.  The food is mostly pizza and burger.
After dinner, we have played ice-breaking games. One of the most interesting games is called two truths one lie. Each of us had to tell 2 truths and 1 lie of ourselves. We got to discover more about each other, even our classmates. It was fun!

We had science and maths lesson.  We had neuroscience as our first lesson. The teacher is pretty, nice and helpful.   We talked about our brain today.  We found out that our brain is very complicated. We have discussed about scanning brains of small organisms and how to investigate the function of different parts of the brain. Each part of the brain is indeed very important! She also talked about different stories of doctors how they find out the functions of the brain. At the end of the lesson, she showed us a transparent sample of a mice's brain. It was very small but amazing. We have never imagined a real brain with fats taken out before.
After lunch, we had maths class. The teacher taught us the definition of games, there are static games and dynamic games, as well as the winning strategies of dynamic games. We played several games. The first game is about prisoners' dilemma. They have to choose between confessing and remaining silent. We found out that confessing is better because they will face less penalties. The next game is about taking stones. They player who takes the last stone wins. We found out that if the rule is different, the winning strategies will be different as well. It is quite interesting as well as finding out the strategies as we continue to play.
After a break, we went to the Stanford bookstore and there were many souvenirs for us to buy, such as cups, clothes, books, caps, bottles, accessories, etc. We bought a lot of them and we are very satisfied. We also went to the fountain which is at the centre of Stanford campus. We took a lot of pictures there as the view there is great. We saw a rainbow at the fountain as well and it was very beautiful.
After dinner, we returned to the dorm and we played games such as scrabble and basketball. It was fun and we had a great time with each other.
