Group 8 Day

Day 6
After one and a half travel time, we arrived at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a public aquarium located at the ocean’s edge on historic Cannery Row. It is the window of marine life. We had a quick lunch of either turkey or Caesar sandwich, a packet of chips and fruits. One of our group mates was frightened by a pigeon and fell on the ground!

We first visited the tentacles exhibit hall. We saw different kinds of octopuses, squid and cuttlefishes such as Bigfin reef squid, flamboyant cuttlefish, day octopus, chambered nautilus. We were impressed by how their unique body features adapt to their living environment. We then visited the Open Sea exhibit hall which is the aquarium’s largest exhibit. We saw enormous Pacific bluefin tuna and Scalloped hammerhead shark which is longer than 8 feet! It was our first time to see this huge sea creature. The most appealing creature to us is definitely the jellyfish. They were orange-brown, egg yolk, pink and transparent…etc. They float elegantly in the water, however, when we touched them, we would receive an electric shock. We later went to the Touch Pool where we got to touch starfish and some rare seaweed. We liked the texture of the starfish as it was soft and smooth. We also visited the splash zone and the African penguins. They were very adorable!  Sadly, the sea otter exhibition was too crowded. We did not have a chance to see how they were fed as the area was packed with people. At last, we went to the gift shop to buy souvenirs. Three of us bought earrings which are of the shape of sharks. We were delighted.

Then it's our free time! We first had frozen yogurt at Pinkberry, which was recommended by Mrs Haider. We had peach flavored frozen yogurt with toppings such strawberry, mochi, Oreo, chocolate, etc. After having delicious, icy frozen yogurt, we went shopping! We walked along both sides of the streets for souvenirs. We found funny and colourful candies such as Nerds, Air Head and Gummy Bears which we cannot find in Hong Kong. Lastly, we ended our day with the sharing of photos from the scavenger hunt. We had a great yet tiring day.
