Day 1:
The sky was
clear and the air was fresh. We passed by cafes and the Stanford bookstore and
other really cool buildings. We went in the Church and it was spectacular. The sceneries
at Stanford was absolutely different from that of Hong Kong and it was great to
have a change of atmosphere.
At the
welcoming dinner, the director dropped by to give us a welcoming speech. We
were surprised when learnt that our school was the first school to take part in
the Stanford International Camps. We were very excited for the upcoming classes
that were introduced by the director.
Before bed, we had some bonding
time to get to know each other. We split into groups and played two truths one
lie. It was really fun, it was a great way to make new friends. We were
exhausted from the activities and we went to bed early.
Day 2:
We had our
first breakfast at the canteen and the food was great. After that, we went on
our first lesson – neuroscience. We all introduced ourselves to the teacher
named Maral. She was absolutely amazing. She taught us about the basics of the
nervous system, we also played some simple experimental games, it was so fun.
Then we learnt about the functions of neurons and the history of different discoveries
on neuroscience. Finally, the cool teacher brought along a mouse brain to let
us have a look. It was transparent and tiny, which was not what we expected!
After lunch,
we had a mathematical exploration class with Mr Zhaoyuan Zheng. He introduced
to two types of games- static games and dynamic games. We played the game
Prisoners’ Dilemma followed by a dynamic programming game. We learnt how to
deduce a winning strategy for each set of questions and it was very
interesting. We had a great time.
