Blog 2 (7/7/2016)
HELLO! We are group 5. We woke up
to the cool breeze blowing through our windows. We started a new day with a
scrumptious breakfast at the Stanford dining hall, as usual. Even though the breakfast is the same every
day, we still found it refreshingly delicious.
As we were walking along the path
that led to the education building, a squirrel suddenly jumped out of nowhere,
and hurried up a tree. It seemed as if it was an ordinary experience in the
USA, yet it was something we would never see in Hong Kong. Squirrels won’t
survive a year in Hong Kong with the lack of trees and severe air pollution.
This extraordinary environment will truly improve our health in these 2 weeks.
Our first lesson of
the day was Neuroscience. Some of us excel in science subjects, while some of
us, frankly, don’t. This led to the mixed first impressions of the class, and
its content. However, all our views changed after the lesson. Our extremely knowledgeable
lecturer made the lesson interesting through the use of pictures, PowerPoint,
and interactive activities, such as the 2-point experiment and impersonating
neurons. The highlight of the lesson was when our lecturer showed us a tiny,
transparent brain of a mouse, which was fascinating.
Lunch was similar to breakfast,
but we enjoyed it just as much.
After last night’s chaos and
confusion in typing our group blogs, we were relieved to go to our next lesson
– Blogging our Journey. The lecturer was enthusiastic about life, which gave a
great aura and atmosphere in the hot kitchen. The course was a mix of blogging,
writing, history and ICT, giving us a chance to learn in all aspects of media.
The hennaing after dinner marked
the end of our day. Some of our councilors and classmates who excelled in arts
and crafts helped with the creating process.
