In the "decision
making lesson", we were introduced to the six elements of a good decision.
They are the "Helpful Frame", "Clear Values",
"Creative Alternatives", "Useful Information", "Sound
Reasoning" and "Commitment to follow through". They helped us to
make better decisions, which will provide us a better life. In addition, the
lecturer taught us about the "decision tree", which helped us analysis which decision was better. The "decision tree" required us to
use our past knowledge, such as probability.
The following lesson was ‘creative
writing’. We thought that we were going to write essays during the lesson but
instead we had rhetoric lessons. Rhetoric is the art of persuasion came up by Aristotle.
The three components of rhetoric are ethos,
pathos and logos which includes
the meaning of credibility of the speaker, emotion and logic respectively. We thought that this was an interesting lesson as we analyzed some advertisements from magazines
and we all had a great time designing our own advertisement. We were amazed by
the creativity of our schoolmates.
Next, we had an exciting
scavenger hunt in the campus. We were given a long list of missions to
complete. For example, taking photos with a group of tourists and singing at
the Meyer Green. As the venue was enormous, we had a hard time running around. Fortunately,
we enjoyed the hunt a lot. Through this interesting activity, we learnt more
about the landscape of Stanford.
After we returned back to
our residence, we were all exhausted and drained. We had our first house meeting
at the lounge and we were told that tomorrow we would be going to San Francisco.
We look forward to the field trip very much.
