Group 10 8th July, 2016

Today in the morning, we took a decision making class where we learnt about the fundamentals of decision making which involves making clear values, creative alternatives, useful information, sound reasoning, commitment to follow through and a helpful frame. The lesson is conducted in a lively way that we got to do some case study and listen to the lecturer's real life experiences that helps us put the concepts we learnt into use. The lesson is particularly useful to us as decision making is crucial and inevitable in our lives and that one simple decision could cause a huge impact on our entire lives.

In the afternoon, we had a writing workshop, where we learn about rhetorics which is a mean of persuasion. We started off by playing bingo of our favorite colors, it's fun and entertaining.  We explored different elements of rhetoric by analyzing advertisements from magazines. We tried to apply concepts of pathos, logos and ethos to design a poster of new products like DNA passwords. This lesson is theoretical yet practical as we see advertisements every where and that we can understand now how it appeals to our emotions, logic etc.
In the late afternoon, we went scavenger hunting in the Stanford campus. While discovering many new and interesting sites in the campus, we took many photos according to the instructions and communicated with Stanford students and visitors. We definitely learnt a lot from this invaluable outside classroom experience. We enjoyed the day very much!
