Today in the morning, we had our second session of Blogging
Your Journey lesson. Firstly, we reviewed and appreciated each other’s blogs
for the previous week. Looking at our classmates’ photographs, we looked back
at the days we spent at Stanford and we couldn’t help but see how happy and
enjoyable time flies swiftly. Afterwards, we had a quick recap of the
vocabulary that we have learnt last lesson. We realized how everyone’s voices
should be spoken out freely without constraints from their minds on media and
at the same time, authenticity and moral is vital in journalism and in using
the Internet. Our teacher Nada reminded us of the importance of freedom, independency
and sincerity in journalism. How to weigh information is also one of the key
elements we learnt from the lesson due to how information is now readily and
easily attainable and that we should think critically and be skeptical in order
to filter useful information. We also practiced how to deal with
pre-presentation jitters which is to breathe in and out deeply. Playing with
Google photos are our next activity where we get to edit our own photos. It was
entertaining.
In the afternoon, we had a mock trial session where we are assigned
roles as attorneys for cross and direct examination and witnesses for a case.
We first watched an old movie about an old legal case movie to learn about the
style of direct and cross examination and learnt some simple rights that the
suspect have while facing a trial in the US. Not only have we learnt about the
legal procedures in the US, we also learnt how to speak in a firm and
persuasive manner in front of a class. Through the preparation of questions and
replies, we established the ability to think independently and critically.
We had a great day!
