After an unpleasantly long flight, we started off the day with a scrumptious and healthy breakfast. The walk through the gorgeous and sprawling campus was filled with much excitement and anticipation for our very first class - anthropology. The question is, what is anthropology? We kept this question well in mind throughout the lesson. The lesson began with an anthropology case analysis about an exotic and unusual tribe called the 'Nacirema'. We criticized their unusual and superstitious behaviour without a second thought. However, we learned that the 'Nacirema' is actually 'American spelt backwards. This brought us to question what and why do we believe in what we believe. Being enlightened, we moved on to talk about Brexit and the identity of Hong Kong. We learnt to question and think critically about everything around me.
The second lesson of the day was creative writing. We discussed rhetorical devices, which mean using persuasive writing tools such as ethos, pathos and logos. We even tried to analyze and interpret various advertisements and designed our own. It was such an interesting and challenging experience. Overall, this day was amazing and we can’t wait for more fabulous experiences ahead.
