Group 7 - Day 5

In the morning, we went to the Main Quad to take group photos. Then, we went back to residence 1047 to take a short break. Half an hour later, we went onto the bus to travel to San Francisco.

After we arrived, a red double decker sight-seeing bus came and picked us up. The tour lasted for three hours. Our first stop was the Golden Gate Bridge. The foggy conditions caused the bridge to become barely visible, making it appear to float midair, a truly magical sight.  It was also extremely windy and we were shivering in our coats. We couldn’t open our eyes and Joyce celebrated this memorable moment by sticking her tongue out, much like an excited canine. Besides, we went to the Golden Gate Park and the Walt Disney Family Museum. We travelled around the city and the view was absolutely amazing.

We stopped by the Pier 39 and had one and a half hours of free time. The pier was full of tourists and it was really crowded. We rushed from shop to shop, eager to explore the joyous surroundings. There were many interesting shops – each uniquely designed and specialized to cater to the many needs of a wandering tourist. For example, a chocolate shop with a sweet-smelling aroma was present, along with pearl shops and countless souvenir shops. We took many photos at the pier and the slightly salty sea breeze was a refreshing reminder of the beautiful. We had a great time at the Pier and we felt sad that we had to leave.

When we returned to the residence 1047, we found out that many of us got sun burnt and had to apply aloe vera gel. We learnt that we should apply sunscreen every time before we went outdoors, and wear a hat. We should provide necessary precautions to prevent issues arising such as; sunburn, heat stroke, dehydration, etc.  It was a valuable lesson and we now know not to underestimate the unrivalled power of the Californian sun.

It was interesting to see that while some of us were in fact sun burnt, others merely obtained a light tan from the blazing sun. We hope that those affected will recover soon.
