We had our first lesson today, which was Blogging Your
Journey. We talked about some of the
history of the media. She showed us some
pictures of how ancient people communicated with each other through cave
paintings and cuneiform. The drawings were
very sophisticated and even small artifacts can help tune musical
instruments. Some of the pictures
represent fish, day, sun, bird, etc. We also discussed about the elements of
writing a good story. A good story needs to have beginning, middle and ending.
Also, the most important parts are setting, characters, and empathy. We find
these very useful and we have learnt more about writing a good story. For
empathy, we have to try to relate our feelings. We also talked about analogue and
digital signals. We have also learnt to write our own blog in a blog creator
engine, WordPress. We also learnt how to use Canva to create our own edits, it’s
a great chance for us to show our creativity. This is the first time we write
our own blogs!
After lunch, we went to the Cantor Art Centre. We saw a lot
of exhibits in the art centre, such as sculptures, paints, ancient artifacts,
etc. The museum is funded by Stanford and the means to pursue a broad vision as
they transformed their deepest sorrow into a living memorial to serve the eager
young men and women of California. One of our most favourite sculptures
is The Thinker. It is a famous sculpture and shows a life-size
nude man figure sitting on a rock with his chin resting on one hand as
though deep in thought and is often used as an image to represent philosophy.
We had fun pretending to be the thinking man. We feel very blessed to be able to visit
art museums with so many precious and valuable art exhibits.
Later, we went to the Hoover tower. We went to the platform
of the tower. When we arrived at the top, it was windy and we are all
shivering. However, the view was great and amazing and we could see the whole
of Stanford University there. We took a lot of photos. Moreover, there are
large bells on the platform on the tower. They look very classical. It was like we went up into a castle and we
can view the whole city. We wish Hong
Kong has sight-seeing towers like that.
After dinner, we had Art and Craft lesson. We made henna and it was very pretty.
