Group 6 8/7/2016

8/7/2016
We had a lesson on decision making today. The teacher shared his experience in his life of how he made his decisions. It is very inspiring and we have understood more about making decisions when we come across dilemmas in life. He also showed us a video about students visiting a high school in Nepal, and what difficulties they faced during the journey to the school. They have to choose to return or to continue their trip. If we continue the trip, we can choose to go by an alternative path or by helicopter.  We all thought about the advantages and disadvantages of all the choices.  The teacher also taught us to draw a diagram which is similar to the diagrams we drew at school, they were related to probability. Half of us chose to return and half chose to continue the trip. At last the people in the  video chose to take the helicopter as they hope not to see any injuries or take risks.
After lunch, we went to have creative writing lesson. The teacher first played a bingo game with us, then she talked about what is rhetoric. She discussed with us what ethos, logos and pathos means. She showed us some advertisements as well as letting us find what elements the advertisement fulfills. Then, she asked us to work in groups and create our own advertisements with the topics on self-controlling car, camera in eyeballs and one way trip to Mars, etc. We had learnt more about the techniques of writing a persuasive advertisement.
When we arrived at our dorms, the counselors had prepared a scavenger hunt for us. We had to run to different spots and do different tasks, such as taking photos with tourists and taking pictures with a dog, etc. Our teacher, Mr Wong ran with us also.  We made new friends as we were working with other groups.  We all cooperated and it was fun as we played along the fountain.  The tourists were very nice as they cooperated with us also.  Although we had not finished all the tasks, we had a great time.
After dinner, we had a house meeting at the common room as we are going to have an excursion to San Francisco tomorrow. It is the first external trip for us to go outside of Stanford University.  The talk would help us stay safe.  We are looking forward to it and we can’t wait to start there soon.
