Group 1 - 7/7/2016

Another exciting day!  The day started with a Neuroscience lesson conducted by Dr. Maral Tajerian.  What a fab teacher - funny, friendly and simply very smart! Her lessons were so inspiring and interesting that some of us now want to pursue this field of science. By volunteering to imitate how a neuron transmits information, we learnt more about the workings of neurons and their importance.   Learning about the development of neuroscience in the past 200 years was quite fascinating.  After the lecture, Dr. Tajerian also shared with us her research on the composition of brain other than cells.  Her study of a net-shaped structure in the brain was quite gripping.  We literally jumped from our seats in total excitement when she showed us a test tube containing a translucent mouse brain.  We hope that she can receive government funding to continue her brain research and go on to win the Nobel Prize in the future!
After a scrumptious lunch, we started our lesson on ‘Blogging Our Journey’.  Our instructor, Professor Nada Milijkovic, taught us various skills and techniques in writing and designing blogs.  She also gave a brief introduction on the history of story-telling.  After this lesson, we feel we can make our blogging story interesting and cannot wait to update our blog every day to inform our parents about our fantastic life at Stanford!

Our exciting day came to a close with a henna session after dinner.   This fun henna application  process reminded us of the poem, The Unknown Girl, which we had analyzed at school in our English lesson.  Seeing the lovely henna on our hands, we are now reluctant to wash our hands!!
