It’s our ninth day at Stanford. In the morning, we had a
visual design thinking lesson. Professor Bill Scott, who is an experienced
lecturer, gave us an experimental introduction to visual art and design
thinking. The lesson started with us trying to draw some basic shapes,
exploring the simplicity of art itself. Then Mr. Bill demonstrated the skills
of coloring, perspective, shading etc. next, he guided us to a flow of thoughts
to brainstorm a creative story within a group of 4. Our group came up with an
adventure of a broomstick in the Stanford campus. After the story has been made
up, we were instructed to draw a cluster of objects that appears in our own
story. The lesson was interactive, we were given the chance to not only look at
other classmates’ works, and we were also able to take pictures of our teacher’s
work.
In the afternoon, we had an academic field visit to the
computer history museum and the well-known Silicon Valley. The museum was in
full details of the history of computer science, different models of various
computers showing its evolution, original copies if essential documents related
to the development of computers, background of the Silicon Valley and finally several
fun and interactive old-fashioned computer games. We had a great time in the
museum. We not only learned that
computer was first invented based on calculators, but also all sorts of smart
phone share similar programs as desktop computers.
We are having a fire pit night later. We are looking forward
to it!
